A month's worth of every New York Times editorial obituary published online, arranged in order of the subjects’ lifespan. Page space is assigned to each person corresponding to how long they lived; someone who died at 72 has 72 picas of column width. For each person, the type is resized in order to fit into the allocated space of time which they had to accomplish all the things they did. The book therefore exposes editorial bias by turning into visual puff pieces the people who accomplished relatively little —according to the wordcount of the Times—in their life span. Plus, it makes for an amazing read: a veritable who’s who of WW2 characters, major athletes, authors, artists, political figures, interspersed with socialities, drug kingpins, financiers, and the occasional spouse of Times staff.
